9th Grade
Math Book Project
One of the projects I did in math was called the Math Book Project.
We had to make a story using one and two step equations. My partner was Mia and our idea was to pretend to be a tourist traveling around Maui and we used one and two step equations in our story to describe how you can maybe use those math equations in life. We went all around Maui to do the project. We went to a waterfall to take pictures, we snorkeled, picked fruit and other more touristy stuff. After finishing the project, we had to present and share the story to 2nd Graders.

I think this assignment adresses on the communication skills because we had to work with our partners and then present it to our class including the 2nd graders that we had to read it to.
I am pround of the photos that we took during the process of our project because we were pretending to be tourists so we took some pretty cool photos. I think that we improved on our communication skills during this project because it taught us to work together and then present it to other people.
The most difficult thing to complete in this projcet was the problems that we had to make up that had to go this the story.

Art Assignment
Here are some sketches and paintings that I have done in art.
I think this Art Assignment goes along with Interpersonal Skills because the art work shows that you are independent of what you are capable doing. Another skill is maybe Thinking and Problem Solving because you have to think what about your art is going to look like and where all of the shading and techniques are going to go.
I am most proud of the technique that I have learned in how to make the art more realistic.
I think I developed a lot of self directional skills in this assignment because I was able to find a good time and place and what to paint to finish this assignment.

Health Project
This Health Project is pretty big. We have about 2 months to do it but it is split into a few parts. We started I would say mid September and we are gonna build up to a giant meet up interview at the end of this November on the main group called the Game Changers. Our goal is that at the end of the project, we will maybe get our messages across about our health ideas.
I think this Health Project goes a long with independent skills and communication skills because this is a pretty big project and you have to figure out almost everything and build it yourself. At the end of the whole project we had to present it to a group of people and listen to their opinions about our work.
I am most proud of the slide show that I made and my topic that I chose that I think it would help a lot of people. My topic was “Can you eat healthy on a tight budget”.
I think I developed a lot of independent and interpersonal skills on this project because there was a lot of things that you have to do to complete yourself and you have to guide yourself to get it done because there is so much to do.

Quarter 3
Hawaiian Studies
Quarter 3 we got to pick a Hawaiian hero and our objective was to make our person look the best and show how they are more important then any other Hawaiian hero. We would have different assignments like create a story about a day in their life or a portrait. The biggest one was a debate. I won! I had to find out who my opponents hero was and had to do research so I was able to say negative things about the hero to make my hero look the best and more important.
My Hero- Queen Liliuokalani
Liliuokalani was the ruler/queen of Hawaii after the king ( her brother ) passed away. She was definitely one of the most important Hawaiian Hero’s. She was the first ever female monarchy in the world. She built valuable schools for the community because she wanted them to be educated and have a better lifestyle. She was very kind , responsible, and genuine person and everyone in her kingdom relied on her very much.
Assignments-
21st Century Skills
Self directional skill-This project was all independent. If you didn't meet the guidelines or finish in time, it wouldn't be shown for a showcase. We would walk around and judge on work. Keeping sure I was on track too is being self directed.
Informational Skills- I had to do a ton of research for all the assignments. Not only for my hero but for my opponents for the debate. I had to make sure my information was correct and I had enough to make a claim my person was better than theirs.
YearBook
In yearbook we got the opportunity to use photos we took from school and create our own yearbook. The criteria was to come up with a theme and incorporate it and be creative. I didn’t have a whole lot of ideas at first so I just decided to stick with an ocean theme.I want able to get a lot of cool photos this school year because of an injury but I did use photos from other classes and used photos that I took during photography and photos that I took while traveling. This is just a preview to the yearbook. I enjoyed this assignment because I got to be creative and use photos to decorate with.
21st century skills-
Interpersonal skills - This was an individual project and I had to use my time wisely. Staying within the criteria and guidelines was crucial to getting a good grade. I got 100%.
Reasoning- Creating a unique display besides a boring slideshow. At the same time not going over board and making it overwhelming to look at.
Creative- Using creativity skills to place the images and text.
English - Hate U Give Essay
This quarter we read a book called The Hate U Give. It was about a girl named Starr and her best friend Khalil getting shot by a white cop. He was innocent, just getting a brush out of the car and the officer confused it with a gun and immiddetly shot him. Both Khalil and Starr are black. The story goes through tragic events like a riot that ends in police using tear gas and causing chaos. Starr goes to an all white private school so not only on the streets does she deal with it, but also at school. She has a split life. Too white at home and too black at school. The moral of the story is snitches don't get stitches. It's the theme throughout the book.
21st Century Skills
Self Directional skills - I had to be very self directed to complete this. I wrote 6 pages and used a lot of time. I also got it done 2 weeks done in advance.
Communication skills - I communicated to my teacher about guidelines and rules. I wanted to go beyond what was expected an I did considering the essay was only required two pages long.

Engineering
In Engineering we have been learning a lot about construction, measuring, and layouts. One of our projects we went on a website called floorplans.net and created our own house with creativity. After that, we researched lots that we could buy for a curtain price and build an imaginary model (digitally) of your dream house on that lot. We had to find about 3 lots for the first task and write a lot of info and details about each one and the next task we had to find of your favorite lots and write all the details including if you get electricity, are there flooding, tsunami warnings, etc.
21 Century Skills-
Critical Thinking - Because there was lot of steps and thoughts of process for looking for a lot and if it was safe for the house we would build. Like if was tsunami safe, flooding, if there’s electricity, is the price worth the size of the lots.
Environmental - We had to understand the details and how much there is to think about the ecosystem and the nature around us and if it was safe for the house.
Creativity - There was a lot of creativity put into this assignment. Such as the layout of our dream house, the details of house we wanted the lot to line up with the house and all the designs.
