Quarter 1
Name of Assignment: Organ Systems
Subject: Human Biology Facilitator/Teacher: Prof.Calder Description of Work/Assignment: This assignment was to learn about all of the organs in our body, how they work, what they do, and their purpose. Our task was to read the textbook, go over the PowerPoints, watch lecture videos, then answer questions as our homework on Cengage. Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? I believe that this assignment addresses self-directional skills because the Human Biology course is asynchronous through UHMC. It can take hours to complete and assignment while not having a mentor to guide you during a class can be extremely challenging. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am most proud of retaining an excessive amount of information. It is not only this assignment, but there are many things to study and remember. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? What was most difficult about completing this task? I believe that this assignment has helped me improve on my self-directonal because of the amount of independence it takes to complete the course. The most difficult task was to memorize the information for any upcoming tests. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? If I could improve, I would improve on the amount of time I take on these assignments. Sometimes, I notice that I tend to rush through because of the stress it can cause from the time consumption. This relates to many time consuming assignments I’ve had in the past and is a fault I am working on. How can you apply this to future learning? I can apply the assignment to my future science courses I will be planning on taking because of my goal of going into the medical field. |
Name of Assignment: Operations with Functions
Subject: Precalculus
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. S
Description of Work/Assignment: For this assignment, it was my first time learning about operating with functions. The concept is finding f(x) or g(x) and combining them with the following of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, to create a new function.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? I believe that this assignment addresses thinking and problem solving because we have to use the rules applied that was given to solve for the equation. For example, (g of h)(-6) indicates that you solving h(-6) before plugging in that answer to the function of g(x) to create a new function. It takes practice to get used to what comes first.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am proud of learning the concept in a short amount of time. Ms.S had provided us with well explained videos on how to operate with functions and because of it, I have complete understanding.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? What was most difficult about completing this task? I have developed an improve on my thinking and problem-solving due to this assignment because of the reoccurring practice it takes to get used to solving the functions. There are many steps to remember but thats what makes me better.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? I haven’t found any mistakes or areas to improve on besides the simple and accidental mistakes that are easy to make. I am improving on my efficiency in solving all problems.
How can you apply this to future learning? I can apply this to my future classes by using these thinking and problem-solving skills for many more math classes that I will be taking in the future.

Name of Assignment: Dream Interpretation
Subject: Intro to Psychology
Facilitator/Teacher: Dr.Azman
Description of Work/Assignment: For this assignment, I had to talk about a dream that I had and try and apply it to one of the dream interpretation theories I think it would relate to.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? I believe that I used a vast amount of information skills because I used knowledge from the textbook and previous dream experiences to interpret which theory it can connect to. Many of the theories have similar meaning, and takes great understanding of psychology to tell the difference.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am most proud of how well I was able to connect my reoccurring dream to one of the theories. While typing out my assignment and learning the theory that correlated to my dream, I felt like I had a better understanding of psychology by using a personal experience.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st and Century Skill with this assignment? What was most difficult about completing this task? I believe that I developed more information skills because in this assignment, it took lots of effort to find the smallest aspects of my dream that could relate to Freud’s Theory. The most difficult part of this was finding one of the many dreams I had that made enough sense to use for the assignment.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? If I could start over the assignment, I would most likely take more time into choosing which dream to use. I feel like that the dream I chose was common and boring, so I would change it to something more original. It would at more detail and interest in this assignment.
How can you apply this to future learning? I can use these skills in my future courses and classes because the assignment had many ways to strengthen my information skills by the amount of detail we have to be aware of in order to complete it.

Name of Assignment: SAT Prep Class
Subject: PSAT Practice Tests Facilitator/Teacher: Ms.Marsh/Ms.S Description of Work/Assignment: This isn’t necessarily an assignment, but was one of the most helpful tools that I came across this semester. The ‘assignment’ was my practice PSAT tests that were given to the class to work on. We covered all tests, the Reading, Language & Writing, Math w Calc, and Math w/0 Calc. The goal for this was to have us prepared for the actual PSATs. Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? I feel like this class involved some interpersonal skills because of the amount of group work there was. Sometimes, we were able to get into groups and compare our answers, share, and evaluate what we did wrong. I enjoyed this aspect of the class because of the opportunity to have the people around me to share their perspectives. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am most proud of the opportunity I had to take the class. I am thankful that this was an option because it had help me prepare for the PSAT and will help me with that SAT’s as-well. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? What was most difficult about completing this task? I developed on my interpersonal skills because of the communication and collaboration that was included in the practice test. The most difficult part about the task was the patience it takes to complete all 4 tests. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? Since this was a practice test, I am not sure what I could improve on, thought it does relate to many of the assignment from 2 years ago to this year because it is a review. How can you apply this to future learning? I can apply these skills to my upcoming SAT tests that will be in a few months. |
Quarter 4
Build a Life Project
Reflection:
During this project, my takeaways were learning how to calculate a realistic budget for my future career. I learned how to find car insurance, the types of car insurance, renters insurance, life insurance, and many more. Overall, the project was valuable because it gave me a general idea of how real-life works with specific jobs. It has also given me a greater perspective on how expensive it is to live a conforming lifestyle every month. I believe that I covered every aspect and obstacle the real world can give you during this assignment. It went into extreme detail, which provided me with a specific estimate of how much money I will be saving and spending every month.
The one monthly expense that shocked me the most was health care and life insurance because of how high the monthly payment was, including the deductible that was around $3,000 upfront.
Currently, as a teenager, I do not pay any bills. Although, I will be paying for car insurance and gas very soon once I purchase my car. Other ways I spend my money are eating out with friends and buying my clothes.
My starting salary, including taxes, was more than enough to cover my monthly expenses. I was also able to save a significant amount per month.
The ways I applied my Financial, Economic, and Business Literacy skills were the amount of research, math calculations, and Logic and Reasoning I used in this project. Although the process was time-consuming, it gave me a greater understanding of how the world works.

Name of Assignment: Trigonometric Functions/Idenities
Subject: Precalculus Teacher: Ms.S Description of Work/Assignment: This unit of precalculus covered a set of trigonometric fuctions that are used to extend, simplify, and prove equations. By using the unit circle, we were able to solve and reduce the functions to actual numbers. It involved using identities cheat sheet and replacing them into equations to make is solvable. Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? I feel like this I used Thinking and Problem Solving skills because the amout of trial and error that was involved in the process. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am most proud of understanding and being able to get used to the process of "playing" around with the numbers. It takes practice to get the feel of using the correct substitute. If the answer is incorrect, you have to be okay with redoing the equation till you get the correct answer. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? What was most difficult about completing this task? I developed on my Thinking and Problem Solving skills because of the thought process of how to get comfortable with trial and error. Problem solving takes place in the processes significantly due figuring out which and were to replace what numbers. |
Name of Assignment: Covering Organic Chemistry
Subject: Chemistry 100
Teacher: Professor Ferguson
Description of Work/Assignment: This is chapter 9 out of 21 for the chemistry class and this unit, we cover the basics of organic chemistry, which is a branch that covers compsitsion, structure, and reactions of carbon-containing compounds. Our assignemnt was to take notes of a slidehsow, read the textbook, and finsih assignments posted on a website we use called "Mastering Chemistry."
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? I believed that I used self-directional skills because this is an asynchronous course. As a whole, self directional skills is improtant because there is no physical person to guide you througout. It is on you to make sure you are turning things in on time and comprehending the material.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am most proud of learning the general concept of organic chemistry. It is know as one of the hardest courses to take in college, and to learn the basics now can be extremely important in the future. (For a person majoring in science)
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? I developed on my self-directional because of the slight pressure that is put on during the course. The idea that following along a fast pace class by yourself can be stressful and nerve-racking. Something I would like to improve on is investing in more time on the assignments.
What was most difficult about completing this task? The most difficult thing about this course would be not engaging with the tecaher and not having a real learning environment I found it exteremly difficult to follow along a complicated subject but just reading a textbook.
